Ireland Second Week. Kinsale to Portmagee

Cold wet day but cosy, warm and only slightly damp in our new drysuits.

The tunnel through the Old Man of Kinsale. We could see light at the end of the tunnel but it was far too rough to take the shortcut through the headland.

The Old Man of Kinsale lighthouse and some of the roughest seas of the trip off the headland.

 In Roaringwater Bay, Cork.

Mizen Head.

One of the numerous headlands with Martello observation towers built during the 19th Century to guard against French invasion.

Campsite at Lower Reen, Cork. The solar panel worked well, charging our phones, vhf radio and AA batteries.

A fisherman gave us two good sized mackerel at Lower Reen.

The end of a long day at Alleghee Beg near Portmagee, Co Kerry. There was a nice slipway to land (below) but the camping options were very limited, thank goodness we had a free standing tent.

Near Portmagee we came across a gannet tangled up in some fishing net, it took a bit of chasing to catch it and it didn't seem that grateful to be cut free.

Portmagee hostel, the day after our camp on the cold wet concrete at Alleghee Beg. We were held up here for two nights by gale force winds. After two weeks paddling it was so nice to have showers, clean clothes and dinners that needed a knife and fork to eat.
